Coincidentally

I find it darkly hilarious that days after posting this I run into an old family friend. I was seated in the waiting room of a dental office, waiting on my mother. The door opened and I heard "I knew her face looked familiar". It was my "Titi" Joanne. A woman I hadn't seen in over 30 years. Her and my mother began talking and out of nowhere she prompted me "Y your father?"

I took a beat, my knee jerk reaction is to just coldly blurt out "he's dead". I wonder how many of us do that, soften the blow for others. I wound up simply saying he passed. She was shocked, she had run into his sister a year or two prior and she made no mention of it. It was especially odd since my father and his sisters had known her husband since they were children, he was my fathers best friend growing up.

That didn't surprise me at all.

What did surprise me was how quickly the universe saw fit to remind me why it is I have such a hard time looking at myself. Everytime I think I've told my life story adnauseum, here comes the universe peeling another layer of the onion off.

Another reveal to myself about myself. Another series of complexities to work through.

Just in time for the holidays.
